Ballast Nedam: Willemspoort Car Park in Den Bosch Balances Sustainability and Functionality

The new Willemspoort car park in Den Bosch was opened on 3 July 2023. Ballast Nedam Park & Connect was responsible for the design and realization in collaboration with Heijmans Vastgoed and Interparking Nederland. The parking garage is located in the future residential area Willemspoort Zuid, opposite the Jeroen Bosch Ziekenhuis, on the southwest side of Den Bosch.

The neighborhood will have a green character and is completely built on a sustainable future. The design of the parking garage fits in well with this. To support biodiversity, the parking garage has been given a green roof. With this addition, birds and insects can also migrate to the district. The facades consist of gabions (a basket or container filled with earth, stones, etc) that are partly covered with climbing plants and there is room for insects and small animals, such as lizards. The facades also have bird and bat boxes.

In addition to sustainability, functionality is also central to the design of this parking garage. In order to make the best possible use of the space, a spiral shape has been chosen as ascent points, whereby the ascent and descent are separated and one-way traffic is maintained. Space has been created for approximately 350 parking spaces, of which 16 are charging places.

This can be expanded to 60 charging stations. As Ballast Nedam Park & Connect, we are thrilled of this successful cooperation with Heijmans Vastgoed. Together we have been able to realize a high-quality parking garage and we are proud of this result.
