Great Falls expands pay-by-phone parking dowtown

New service lets drivers pay using credit or debit card; extend their parking session remotely; get alerts before their time expires

The City of Great Falls has expanded its mobile pay-by-phone parking service to all metered spaces throughout the Downtown. In a continued partnership with PassportParking, Inc., the new service will provide parking customers with the ability to pay for parking from their mobile phone.

The city launched a pilot program for PassportParking’s Mobile Pay service last March on select meters in Downtown Great Falls. After the success of the pilot program, the City Commission voted last July to expand the service to every meter in Downtown Great Falls.

“Paying by mobile phone makes it more convenient to visit Downtown Great Falls,” said Craig Raymond, Director of Planning & Community Development for the City of Great Falls. “Not only do customers not have to worry about having enough change for parking, but with PassportParking mobile pay, they can pay for parking with their mobile phone from anywhere, even the warmth and comfort of their own car during these cold Montana winters.”

Stickers affixed to each meter will inform users of the service’s availability. To utilize the new PassportParking service, customers must first register for free via the PassportParking’s app or website, or even calling the local free number listed on the PassportParking signage. Customers can even register with the push of a button using Facebook.

Once registration is complete, customers can pay for parking by using a mobile app, calling the toll free number or texting their zone and space information.

Montana also provides customers the option to receive text message alerts and reminders 5 minutes prior to their time expiring. Customers using the mobile app will be able to see the amount of time remaining for their parking session, but it will not be displayed on the meter itself. However, customers will not have to display any proof of payment as enforcement agents can view payments through a wireless device.

“We are thrilled Great Falls has chosen to expand our mobile payment service in the Downtown,” said Khristian Gutierrez, Managing Partner at PassportParking. “This service will not only benefit the residents and visitors of Great Falls through the convenience of mobile payment options, but it will also benefit the city through delivering a clearer picture of parking payments as a whole. We look forward to continuing our support for the city and its initiatives to make parking easier and more convenient for the community.”
