New technology will soon make parking more convenient to people taking advantage of parking in West Hartford. The Town of West Hartford is proud to announce a new pay with your phone option for parking that will allow drivers to skip the trip to the pay station and pay for parking directly from their mobile phone.

The new service, PassportParking, will be available for use in West Hartford’s Central Business. In addition to allowing drivers to pay for parking on the go or from the comfort of their own vehicle, the service can also be used to extend parking sessions without having to return to the meter. A countdown timer lets drivers know exactly how much time they have left and notifications to remind them when their session is about to expire.

Paying by mobile phone makes parking a hassle-free experience.,” said Brooke Nelson, West Hartford’s Municipal Parking Operations Manager. “With PassportParking, people parking in West Hartford can focus on all the great things our town has to offer and not how much time is left on their parking.”

To utilize the new service, smart phone customers must first download and register the PassportParking app from the Apple Store for iPhones or Google Play for Android users. One can also register for the service online at passportparking.com/park, using Facebook, or by calling the local number listed on the meter.

Once registered for the service, drivers will have many options to pay for parking, including the PassportParking app and mobile website for smart phone users. No smart phone? No problem. drivers with basic cell phone capabilities will be able to call the local phone number and register via an automated phone system. To complete the payment process through the app, drivers will have to input the zone listed on the pay station, their license plate, and the amount of time needed.

Although meters will not show any added time remaining, customers will not have to display any proof of payment. Town parking enforcement workers will have the ability to view payments for each space through a wireless handheld device.

The mobile pay service is offered by Charlotte, NC-based PassportParking, Inc. Passport currently operates in almost 100 municipalities, universities, and private parking operators nationwide, including Lincoln, NE; Louisville, KY; and Fort Myers, FL. The company also developed ParkChicago, Chicago’s mobile parking payment application.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Town of West Hartford in launching our Mobile Pay service,” said Co-Founder and Northwestern University alumnus Bob Youakim. “The Town understands the huge value this convenience brings to its customers. We look forward to a long relationship with the Town of West Hartford as it continues to improve the parking experience for its customers.”
