Parking Management Company, ABM, and Passport Lead the Charge on Denver’s Mobility Initiatives

Mayor’s Mobility Action Plan inspires change

ABM and Passport lead the charge on Denver’s mobility initiatives

Denverites spoke loud and clear during the November 2017 election, they want a bond to assist with upgrades to their city. Out of 69 bond projects, 25 of the projects were transportation-related. The City of Denver made its priorities clear, too. It wants to make a considerable number of changes to how people commute with a focus to make it more commuter-friendly. The work goes alongside Mayor Michael Hancock’s Mobility Action Plan to streamline the City’s modes of transportation. This summer, Denver will be able to see the first project groundbreakings on the bond program.

As the city begins to put its plan in action, parking operators like ABM are already taking the first step to make transportation more convenient in Denver. ABM, a leading provider of facility solutions, has hired Passport to launch its mobile payments for parking platform, enabling drivers to easily pay for their parking through the PassportParking® app. Passport is the global leader in mobile payments for parking and transit and its payment platform is available in more than 100 parking lots and garages throughout the Denver metro area.

People visit Denver and absolutely love it here. Our population increases by about 10,000-15,000 new residents annually. With this steady growth also comes an increase in traffic and congestion,” said Sean Mackin, ABM Branch Manager for the Colorado Region. “I believe Mayor Hancock has the right idea with his Mobility Action Plan. He is tackling a problem many cities are facing. In partnership with Passport, ABM is contributing to the success of the Mayor’s strategy -- to leverage technology to make local trips easier and more convenient.”

In 2015, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Smart City Challenge, encouraged mid-sized municipalities to develop new ideas for a smarter way for citizens to move throughout a city and to bring transportation operations to underserved areas. They needed to use data, applications and technology to help people and goods move more quickly, economically and efficiently. Denver took the challenge to heart by aggressively testing and deploying strategies to improve city life through data and technology. The city was one of seven finalists out of 78 applicant cities.

ABM has been a great thought-leader in conversations about how cities can incorporate smart strategies. Through our partnership in cities across the U.S., we have seen how aligning with the city’s goals are a priority to ABM,” said Philip Endres, Passport executive. “Anytime Passport can support a city’s overall initiatives with data-driven insights and technological advances there’s an incredible opportunity to move the needle forward on a plan to benefit residents.”
