Nedap and Avitech Optimize the Parking Capacity in the City of Iasi

The city of Iasi in Romania has chosen Nedap and Avitech to improve on-street parking in their city center. The project is started to optimize the existing parking capacity in paid parking zones in the city center of Iasi and to reduce traffic congestion. Nedap’s smart parking sensors will be implemented to monitor, control and provide real-time parking data. Parking availability information on parking bays, disabled bays and EV charging bays is available for drivers to increase service and enable them to easily find a suitable free parking bay. Business partner Avitech integrates real-time occupancy data from SENSIT into its UPPARK Parking App to manage the parking spaces.

Need for Accurate and Timely Occupancy Information

Iasi is the second largest city in Romania and is located in the northeast of the country, in the region of Moldova. At the moment, drivers have difficulties finding free parking spaces in the city center of Iasi. They drive throughout the city center looking for a parking space but do not know in advance where a parking space is available. This increases exhaust emissions and dangerous situations because of traffic congestions. Therefore, Iasi is looking for a solution to avoid traffic issues and to make it easier to find a free parking space.

Optimize Parking Capacity with Real-time Parking Data

The goal of the city of Iasi is to manage the traffic congestion by using the existing capacity of the parking spaces in the city in the most optimal way. By displaying real-time occupancy via Avitech’s UPPARK mobile app, drivers can easily find free parking spaces in the city and guided to the nearest available parking spaces. In addition, the UPPARK mobile app offers the payment of the parking fee via credit card or SMS. It is also possible to set push notifications for the remaining paid time.

In this way, the smart parking system in Iasi optimizes the use of existing parking capacity, reduces search traffic and CO2 emissions and collect valuable data about the traffic flow in the city of Iasi.
