Nedap’s Long-Range UHF Readers Enable Seamless Parking Access to VIPs at KAIA and KKIA Private Aviation Terminal (Saudi Arabia)

To give their clients a delightful and safe experience, PrivatAir was looking for a long-range identification solution that could grant parking access without the need to stop at the gate. Nedap’s uPASS Reach was chosen to provide seamless parking access to VIPs and pre-paid subscribers to the private aviation terminals at King Abdul Aziz International Airport (KAIA), Riyadh, and King Khalid International Airport (KKIA), Jeddah. Nedap’s automatic vehicle identification solution was successfully integrated with Scheidt & Bachmann’s parking management system and commissioned by Idex services.

As PrivatAir deals with high-net-worth clients, they wanted to make sure their clients are given a delightful experience from the first point of entry to their next destination and when they return back to Saudi Arabia. Therefore, they were looking for a solution that could identify and grant parking access without the need for the client to stop at the gate and generate a parking ticket.

Convenient Vehicle Access

With its proven performance under harsh weather conditions, Nedap’s uPASS Reach UHF RFID reader in combination with UHF Windshield tags was chosen to increase convenience and provide a delightful parking experience to clients. This long-range vehicle identification reader is based on passive UHF technology to identify vehicles from a distance of 5 meters. The read range can be easily adjusted. The solution is cost-effective with low maintenance required as it is in combination with battery-free UHF tags. The readers were installed in the main entry and exits and in reserved VIP parking areas of the private aviation terminal parking.

Communication Protocols and Seamless Integration

The uPASS Reach reader supports Wiegand, RS485 and Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) for automatic vehicle identification applications. OSDP enables advanced and secure communication between the uPASS UHF RFID reader and the controller.

With its capability to support a variety of industry-standard communication, interfaces enabled our partner Idex Services to seamlessly integrate Nedap’s solution with Scheidt & Bachmann’s parking management system through an existing and well-developed integration.

With this automatic vehicle identification solution, PrivatAir has been able to provide hands-free parking access to registered clients without issuing paid parking tickets and also eliminate waiting time at the gates. Meanwhile, the parking area is monitored and secured.
