The New Generation of TAPS Ground Sensors by LTS AG Sets Course for the Baltic Sea

LTS AG was able to win a strong partner in the Estonian capital Tallinn. NWT Solutions OÜ is an established company and offers high-quality and modern parking solutions. NWT represents major brands in the Estonian market worldwide. Now, with LTS, another player has been added to the portfolio and a first project has already been successfully implemented.

In mid-August 2021, despite the COVID hurdles, the energy-autonomous sensors TAPS were installed in a park and ride project. The aim was to detect vehicles entering and leaving a parking facility. The sensors were installed directly next to the parking barrier. The sensors now send the data via a gateway to a parking status board, which then displays the available parking spaces for users. The system is intended to provide an efficient solution for moving traffic in search of a parking space. Furthermore, it is of great importance to better understand customer behavior and to adapt the offer to the corresponding needs. Thanks to the TAPS software suite, the data can now be visualized and analyzed in detail.

For the parking facility, the same lane is used for entry and exit. Here, it was still necessary to be able to guarantee a high detection rate. This challenge was solidly mastered by means of the precise dual detection of the TAPS technology.

With the new generation of sensors, the housing concept was also redeveloped, making installation and maintenance much easier. The outer housing has been separated from the sensor and they now form two independent components. This plug-and-play concept allows for quick replacement (> 5 minutes) of the sensor itself, as the housing is permanently installed in the floor, while the sensor can be flexibly replaced.

Follow-up orders are now in place. In the future, the TAPS system will be used to support the city of Tallinn's goal of taking a significant step towards IoT in traffic as well.
