Bolidt: Car Park Schiphol P1

In order to prepare the national airport Schiphol for the future, a new pier and terminal are being built. The terminal, which is scheduled for completion in 2023, will be located south of Schiphol Plaza and connected to the existing terminal building. The new flexible pier will be located near Cargo Station 1 and is expected to be ready for use in late 2019. All of these plans also have an impact on existing parking facilities and included the construction of an extension directly next to car park P1 with flooring installed by Bolidt.

Upgrade

Bolidt was on familiar ground at Schiphol. A number of years ago, it installed over 100,000m2 of floor finish as part of an upgrade to car park P1. The biggest challenge back then was the short lead time of the project and the fact that the work had to be carried out with minimal inconvenience to users. Bolidt managed to deliver the project within the allocated time frame and to complete satisfaction.

New extension

Based on the past positive experiences, general contractor Ballast Nedam decided to involve Bolidt again in the new extension. This time the brief was to install nearly 15,000m2 of Boligrip 300-R, a slip-resistant floor finishing system developed especially for car park applications.

The system offers excellent resistance to high traffic loads, as P1 is intended for short stay parking. At the same time, the installed flooring system helps to ensure that users of the car park feel comfortable. That is in part due to clear surface markings and the use of bright and fresh colours, which make a significant contribution to the sense of safety. Because of its slip resistant quality, the flooring also reduces the risk of drivers slipping when getting out of or into their vehicles.

Very tight schedule

As with all projects at Schiphol, time was a crucial factor. A very tight schedule had been established beforehand, which was not open to discussion. With its own specialised application teams Bolidt has been able once again to install the floor finishes within a very short time frame. The delivery of the extension to car park P1 results in an impressive list of indicators;
