Reverse Engineering A Parking Initiative

APCOA Parking (UK) is helping to spearhead a parking initiative in Milton Keynes to keep staff safe.

In partnership with both Network Rail and MITIE, APCOA is driving a new reverse parking initiative at The Quadrant:MK car park to advise users to back-up in a bid to improve safety.

In-line with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) workplace guidance, APCOA is using a highly visible awareness campaign to help reduce speed and prevent vehicles from needlessly straying into pedestrian walkways.

Drivers using the larger 381-space Park Mark® staff facility are now advised to adopt the simple reverse parking manoeuvre to make it easier and safer for them to leave the car park.Reverse Parking

A Commercial Parking Services’ spokesperson from APCOA said: “While many drivers already reverse park, we want everyone to embrace the safety measures in the staff car park at The Quadrant:MK

Safety is not about compromising users’ experience or accessibility of the car park, but to maximise visibility for all drivers and pedestrians alike.  When you’re dealing with vehicles in confined spaces, the risks to personal safety will always be high without the right controls in place.”

Although there have been no major accidents or incidents at The Quadrant:MK, careless or inconsiderate parking accounts for a large number of injuries and fatalities each year.

To help safeguard safety, and to encourage compliance, any driver who does not embrace the new reverse park initiative will receive a pre-printed letter - advising of them of the possible consequences from not reverse parking.
