This week Volvo announced its new partnership with communications group Ericsson to deliver global connected car services. Together they created a cloud-based connectivity system which, among others, enables your car to communicate with the parking garage and pay for your parking. No more hassle with finding your parking ticket, or waiting in line at the payment machine.
At this year’s CES Volvo and Ericsson announce the launch of “cloud-enabled connected car services”, to be integrated in the models. The Park&Pay function is the first in its kind worldwide. The system communicates with the parking lot on entry and guides the driver to the closest available spot. On exit the systems pays the fee. This means that the existing stations will have to adopt the technology as well.
The new system has a lot more functions than just the Pay&Park function, for example a built-in 3G modem for internet connection and several infotainment applications. Click here to read the official press release.
