So you know that it’s having a widespread impact when the folks at the White House are jumping on board. Smart Cities are providing residents around the globe with enhanced urban services, reduced costs, less resource consumption as well as tool to enable us to engage more effectively.
The White House Administration in America has recoginised its potential and have announced an initiative that will invest over US$160 million in federal research and leverage more than 25 new technology collaborations with a view to help local communities.
The White House Administration’s Smart Cities Initiative takes its first steps focussing on the following strategies:
- Creating test beds for “Internet of Things” applications and developing new multi-sector collaborative models
- Collaborating with the civic tech movement and forging intercity collaboration
- Leveraging existing Federal activity
- Pursuing international collaboration.
