On March 28th first time in 34 years the new 12-sided £1 coin will be introduced and will bring several changes. Coin machines in whole country will have to be replaced by new ones. Parking lots, train stations and many other locations will get new machines, however, they will not be ready by the time the new coins will be introduced.
A quarter of Britain’s 10,000 parking machines will not accept the new design possibly even until July. Drivers holding the new pound coin will struggle to park in many parking lots across UK. Machines that have not been updated yet will note drivers about that so they could look for a space elsewhere.
The British Parking Association claimed that mostly by this are going to be affected people in rural areas since the machines are not as easy to modify.
It is estimated that an update of machines will cost around £50 million ($63 million). "There is a possibility that the new £1 coin may encourage a move towards cashless payments, however there is evidence to suggest that significant numbers of users do not trust new technology such as phone apps," said Kelvin Reynolds, the association's director of policy and public affairs.
