Longford reached a step closer to introduce ‘Age Friendly’ parking spaces in town by organizing a meeting of Longford Municipal District members. Longford town turned into an ‘Age Friendly’ town in 2016 and since then a variety of projects have been introduced in order to further enhance the initiative.
The Age Friendly Cities and Counties Programme is developed by active city- and county-based Alliances, which involves seniors from public, commercial and not-for-profit organizations.
During the meeting, places in Longford town have been identified for bus stops and car parking.
Age Friendly Ireland supports Alliances and is willing to streamline the effort of all important players at local level, considering the opinions, interests and requests of older people at the center. Through an Older People’s Council in every contributing local authority area seniors are putting effort to achieve a constant age-friendly local development.
Engineer, Eamon Bennett said that he was motivating council members to actively participate in the selection process.
Cllr John Browne (FG) offered that a disabled bay should be installed.
