Park Mark is a certification awarded to car parks in the UK that adhere to the rigourous standards of the Safer Parking Scheme. The car parks that achieve the award have displayed their effectiveness in applying management practices and security measures that actively reduce crime and the fear of crime. Approximately a quarter of the car parks in the UK have achieved the Park Mark award.
Park Mark car parks ensure that the following key issues for drivers have been addressed;
- clear directional signage and traffic flow techniques are used to ensure vacant parking spaces are swiftly located and pedestrian access and exit routes can be easily followed,
- car parks are well lit making maximum use of daylight and therefore reducing fear of crime and opportunity to commit offences,
- anti-graffiti paint, climbing plants and highly patterned surfaces are used to deter graffiti and any litter is quickly cleared away to deter further criminal damage and keep the car park presentable.
