The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) partners with the IPS Group, the city’s new parking pay station vendor. IPS Group was chosen after an evaluation process that also included an on-street demonstration where parkers could weigh in.
SDOT will replace all it's current parking pay stations in 2015 and 2016 with the new IPS smart parking meters.
This new technology will enhance the customer experience; credit card transaction times will decrease, the credit card readers will be replaced with newer ones, new back office software will allow to detect and fix problems faster and remotely, and changes in rates can be made wireless.
The new pay stations also allow for different prices depending on time. This means higher rates during peak hours and lower rates in hours of less demand.
