Adaptive Recognition Delivers Foundation for SmartPort Project at Scandlines Ports in Puttgarden, Germany and Rødby, Denmark

Adaptive Recognition brings specialized experience from many industries creating the foundation to build a Smart Port with automated solutions

Over the next year, Adaptive Recognition will deliver the foundation – intelligent cameras, sensors and middleware – that will enable Scandlines to build a Smart Port that can automate the handling of ferry customers.

This project marks Scandlines’ foray into digitizing ferry ports and turns the Puttgarden-Rødby connection into a real-time, end-to-end ferry operation with technology from Adaptive Recognition, making the two ports some of the smartest in Europe.”

About Adaptive Recognition

Adaptive RecognitionAdaptive Recognition is a group of creative minds, developing and manufacturing AI-based image processing technology, for the traffic, security, and identity industries.

Adaptive Recognition's first major successes came with our globally market-leading Carmen® ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) product, which is capable of automatically recognizing and reading images of car license plates. This was followed by introducing various standardized codes, which are used, among other things, in shipping or printed on ID documents like passports.

The small startup transformed into a professional international company with locations in Denmark, the USA, Asia-Pacific, Central-Europe, and Singapore, with 300+ employees and 30+ representative partners worldwide.

About Scandlines

Scandlines is a modern and innovative ferry operator with a green vision for the future. We have a proud culture based on strong German-Danish cooperation and maritime history dating back to 1872.

Scandlines operates two ferry routes with high capacity and frequency. Six of our ferries are hybrid ferries, and two are furthermore fitted with an innovative rotor sail – and that contributes to making our ferries greener.

Our core business is to provide an efficient and reliable transport service for both passengers and freight customers. The focus for all our activities – on board the ferries as well as in our BorderShops – is to give our customers a great experience.

With more than 38,000 departures on seven ferries, Scandlines in 2021 transported over 3.6 million passengers, 950,000 cars and around 720,000 freight units on the routes Puttgarden-Rødby and Rostock-Gedser.
