- Berlin, Germany
Survision powers parking at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin with LPR.

Q-Park's Quartier Potsdamer Platz car park in Berlin offers an exemplary solution for modern urban parking needs, employing license plate recognition (LPR/ANPR) technology. Located in a bustling and culturally rich area, the car park supports seamless and efficient parking for visitors to nearby theaters, cinemas, and the world-renowned Berlinale Film Festival.

This facility operates as a strategic urban mobility hub, enhancing accessibility and customer convenience in one of Berlin’s most frequented locations. Q-Park Potsdamer Platz in Berlin is spacious and modern with an impressive capacity of 2,000 parking spaces, meeting the needs of thousands of visitors daily. Designed to efficiently handle a high volume of vehicles, the car park offers a digitized parking experience. This degree of enhancement streamlines transactions and minimizes wait times at the barrier, payment machines and enables 3rd party mobility partner integrations.

The forward thinking and customer oriented parking experience is enabled by a license plate recognition (LPR/ANPR) system featuring 17 LPR cameras that facilitate fast and reliable reading of license plates upon entry and exit. Access to the car park is made seamless through its seven well-organised entrances, which reduce congestion and allow for smooth access even during peak moments. Exiting is equally efficient, with eight dedicated exits, ensuring a quick, hassle-free experience for motorists leaving the facility.

By combining large-scale capacity with advanced LPR technology and optimal infrastructure, Q-Park Potsdamer Platz sets a new standard for urban parking solutions in Berlin.

The Challenge

The Potsdamer Platz location experiences a high volume of daily traffic, particularly during major events such as the Berlinale, where rapid turnover and efficient management of parking spaces are essential. Ensuring smooth, congestion-free access and exit for a high volume of visitors while maintaining an effortless experience for users unfamiliar with the facility posed a significant operational challenge.

The Solution

Entry and exit of an underground parking lot.

To meet these demands, Q-Park, together with PMS (Parking Management System) vendor SKIDATA, implemented an LPR solution from Survision. This advanced technology allows license plate recognition upon entry and exit, eliminating the need for physical tickets and even payments at the facility. By utilizing LPR, Q-Park reduces wait times, alleviates congestion, and enables hands-free access, which is particularly beneficial for short-term and event-driven parking needs.

Results

Underground parking lot with cars parked in it.

The introduction of LPR at Q-Park Potsdamer Platz has resulted in:

  • Enhanced Efficiency: Reduced congestion and waiting times at peak hours due to automatic license plate recognition and efficient payment processing.
  • User Convenience: Visitors benefit from a hands-free, ticketless parking experience, enhancing customer satisfaction, especially for tourists and event-goers.
  • Event Readiness: The car park can easily accommodate high traffic during major events such as Berlinale, effectively managing increased demand while providing a positive customer experience.
