Westminster City Council Wins 2013 Tech Success Innovation Award

The app being used for Westminster City Council’s groundbreaking parking bay sensor scheme, currently being deployed by Smart Parking, has won the Innovation Award at the 2013 Tech Success Awards.

Westminster City signed a landmark contract with Smart Parking in November and will start to install parking bay sensors in January 2014.  Phase 1 of the programme will see a rollout of over 3,000 bay sensors in spaces across the West End, which will take the stress out of searching for a parking space for millions of motorists in some of the busiest parts of Central London. 

One of the judges, Clive Longbottom, Co-Founder of QuoCirca, said “By creating this app which shows people where parking spaces are actually unoccupied, I think it’s really helping the driver, it’s helping London, it’s helping Westminster.  I think it’s a fantastic project, I tip my hat to Westminster, I really like this one, A very, very worthy winner.”

Councillor Nickie Aiken, Westminster City Council Cabinet member for Parking commented “the Tech Success award confirms our belief that the SmartPark system and ParkRight app will combine to make a genuine difference for people looking to park in Westminster. To win such a prestigious award is wonderful and welcome recognition of Westminster City Council’s commitment to make parking Safer, Easy and Fairer.”
