The London Borough of Camden goes live with Smart Parking technology
The London Borough of Camden goes live with Smart Parking technology transforming the parking experience in key on-street locations across the borough.
With over 500,000 vehicles traveling through the central London Borough of Camden on a daily basis the demand for the use of limited space - for moving traffic, for servicing and for parking - considerably exceeds capacity and finding a parking space is not always easy.
The stress this puts on the local area in terms of congestion requires Camden Council to take stock of parking conditions in the borough and respond to them proactively, balancing the needs of residents and businesses, and those of the many people who work, study and visit Camden.
With this in mind, this week will see Camden Council take an innovative approach to these issues by deploying Smart Parking’s SmartPark solution. The solution involves the installation of 374 RFID-equipped SmartEye vehicle detection sensors, linked via SmartLink data transmitters in and around Central Camden and Camden Town.
Real-time occupancy data is fed into RingGo, the cashless parking application available on iPhone devices with an Android release expected in early January 2016. Drivers can download the app to view a current picture of parking spaces near to them which then guides them to the nearest unoccupied bay ultimately reducing the time taken looking for a parking place. Using the same application they can then pay for their parking session with a credit card.
Utilising the app allows motorists to make better informed decisions about their parking location and works to change their behaviour by allowing them to identifying parking in less occupied streets close to their desired destination.
Intelligent Information
SmartRep software collates and analyses live information on how parking space is being used. Accurate vehicle-by-vehicle, minute-by-minute data on actual usage of the city’s facilities gives the council the leading edge in day-to-day management and future planning.
Transforming journeys
Delighted to further expand Smart Parking technology in the capital, Group Chief Executive Officer, Paul Gillespie said “Our smart parking solution is a tried and tested method of improving parking for cities and businesses across the globe. It will provide Camden Council with never seen before kerbside management data, helping them in their long-term strategy for a green and more convenient city.”
