Queenstown International Airport Looks to Extend its Suite of Parking Technology

Queenstown International Airport installs 300 in-ground vehicle detection sensors

Since our previous installation at Queenstown Internation Airport in March 2018, visitors to the airport have found parking on the main site a breeze thanks to our vehicle detection sensors and linked digital guidance signage that have helped them find a place to park their car on the main site – in the short stay drop off and pick up parking lots.

This initiative was installed shortly after the airport completed a major overhaul of its parking infrastructure, and aside from providing visitors with an easier parking experience when dropping off or picking up, it has also allowed the airport visibility of real-time data and visibility on how parking facilities are used, as well as trends and parking analytics.

Off the back of this, Queenstown International Airport is extending its suite of parking technology to its Park & Ride facility, and once again Smart Parking has been engaged to supply the technology for this initiative.

The impetus behind this project is to alleviate pressure and car congestion from the main site by encouraging people wanting longer term parking to park offsite. As such, we will be installing over 300 in-ground vehicle detection sensors in their new Park & Ride facility.

Data from these sensors will be displayed on digital guidance signage strategically placed at decision-making points leading up to the Park & Ride facility, and motorists will be incentivised to park there securely with frequent shuttles to and from the airport terminal.

Once we install the new sensors and signage it will seamlessly link to the platform that Queenstown Airport have been running for the past 18 months, giving them an uninterrupted service from a user point of view.

It’s always gratifying to have a happy client turn to us again when they want to extend their SmartPark system to other areas of their site, and we’re absolutely delighted to be working with Queenstown International Airport on their exciting new project.” - Rebeca Grainger, Smart Parking NZ General Manager of Sales.
