Bega Valley Shire are the Latest Australian Council to Adopt a SmartPark System
Smart Parking have recently added another Australian council to our portfolio, with the contract to install our SmartPark system in the area of Bega Valley Shire (in New South Wales, Australia) being awarded in November 2018.
Merimbula’s footprint isn’t a large one, but it is significant in that it’s one of only a few Australian cities in New South Wales to have its own airport, as well as being located equidistant between Sydney and Melbourne, right off the national highway 1. As well, the town centre serves as a hub for interstate coach services, rail connections and commuter bus services.
This means that the town sees a reasonably heavy amount of vehicle traffic, and in the interest of managing parking services it was decided that a smart city parking solution was required.
The requirements included a specific set of deliverables including value for money, easy maintenance, ability to be expanded on, improved parking compliance, improved customer experience and better visibility of real-time parking information for both city operators and motorists.
Smart Parking won the tender on the back of our previous track record and the fact that our system ticked off all the above deliverables.
The install will include our latest dual-detection in-ground sensors, as well as SmartSpot gateways to relay the data from the sensors to SmartCloud, our IoT platform. Bega Valley Shire Council were also impressed by our innovative SmartCloud platform, as this will allow them to collect and analyse large sets of data and information garnered by the sensors. This will afford them a view of how their parking is being used, and allow for informed decision making around future planning.
A key requirement in the brief was also to ensure that the system installed would be able to be expanded on in the future. This benefit is integral to our system as it has been designed from day one to be a true smart city tool. By simply installing more sensors and SmartSpots, we can streamline these into SmartCloud at the touch of a button.
Ben Williams, Smart Parking’s National Sales Manager, comments “We’re pleased to see another Australian council come on board with our SmartPark system. We’re very much looking forward to working with the operators at Bega Valley Shire Council and Merimbula town and fully intend for this to be a partnership of clear and constant communication to enable strategic planning and seamless execution of the project.”
