SKIDATA wins public tender for the city of Amsterdam to equip 22 parking facilities

The city of Amsterdam puts its confidence in the high-quality access solutions from SKIDATA. The city of Amsterdam exploits more than 25,000 parking lots in 22 garages. The value-based public tender was focused on a long-term partnership to explore future parking technologies, services and innovations like paying by mobile phones and the introduction of e-ticketing.

In the business office and event district Zuidoost the city of Amsterdam exploits more than 11,200 parking lots. One finds here, among other things, the Amsterdam Arena (Ajax Amsterdam Stadium), the Ziggo Dome, the Heineken Music Hall (HMH) as well as a large shopping center and numerous office buildings. On event days there are over 10,000 parking transactions made.

SKIDATA starts with equipping four parkings located in Zuidoost. The intention is that SKIDATA will equip another four parkings in Zuidoost and an additional fourteen in the city center and other areas of Amsterdam. They will be equipped with state-of-the-art solutions for vehicle access management. The city of Amsterdam relies heavily on innovations in parking and has set itself the goal that customers can choose freely between parking on the street or in garages (on-street or off-street) and pay the entire parking fee conveniently over their mobile device.

For Amsterdam this value-based public tender was focused on the areas of innovation, quality, proven technology as well as experience. The city is convinced that with SKIDATA it has found a partner who satisfies these points 100%.

The SKIDATA package of services

Willem-Jan Balk, Area Managing Director Northern Europe and Country Manager SKIDATA Netherlands, commented on the comprehensive range of services and options which will be available to the city of Amsterdam in the future: "With the open SKIDATA system and its interface flexibility, third-party systems can be integrated very easily and securely. Our customers take advantage, on the one hand, of the many benefits of the complete SKIDATA solutions, but at the same time do not have to give up familiar or desired products from other manufacturers. Flexibility is therefore always ensured. And the best part: As a systems integrator, SKIDATA provides the complete solution from a single source".

The parking facilities will include the latest technologies, such as license plate recognition, EMV integration (for debit/credit cards), payment via mobile phone and the possibility to print tickets at home via QR/Print@Home codes. In this way, customers are supported throughout the entire Customer Journey and parking becomes a part of the perfect city experience.

The spectrum of services which SKIDATA provides the customer includes the following features:

  • Exclusive multi-year contract for multiple parking facilities, including support and maintenance
  • Integration of the platform solution for on-street and off-street parking, including a mobile payment solution
  • The control of all facilities via a control room
  • Various connections to long-term parking providers, external webshops, Ticketmaster, and public transport

Together with the city of Amsterdam the contract was signed and made public in Amsterdam at the Intertraffic international trade fair on the 5th of April 2016.
