Pay contact-free with girogo at Scheidt & Bachmann's pay stations
For the first time parking tickets can be paid at the automatic pay stations with the girogo contact-free payment system – fast, easy and secure. With this solution Scheidt & Bachmann are expanding the variety of payment options via their pay stations. This convenient way of paying a parking fee without the need for small change or bank notes has recently been offered to customers at the underground car park at the Rheydt marketplace in Mönchengladbach, Germany.
This not only saves time, as you no longer need to search for the right money, but also the notice sometimes shown on pay stations "Payment only with correct change" can be ignored. "Payment is simple and intuitive", says Manfred Hübner, head of the department of Electronic Banking at the Stadtsparkasse Mönchengladbach. "Add a credit balance onto your cash card and hold the card closely to the ticket machine for payment. The amount will be debited from the prepaid credit balance without a signature or PIN entry being required when paying."
Requested by the operators of the underground car park, Scheidt & Bachmann went a step further: the Sparkasse card with the topped up girogo-chip can be used as a control medium when entering the car park. A paper ticket is therefore no longer necessary. This not only protects the environment but it also extends the working life of machine parts that can be prone to ‘wear and tear’. The card is simply held in front of the terminal on the control device and the barrier will open. When exiting, the control device becomes the “automatic pay station”. Here the bankcard is also held in front of the device, the system calculates the parking fee and the amount is debited from the credit on the cash card.
The technical implementation of this convenient payment option is the result of a successful collaboration between the underground car park operator, Nordpark, the Stadtparkasse Mönchengladbach and the systems house Scheidt & Bachmann.
girogo is a contact-free payment function of the German credit industry and is automatically integrated in all newly issued German Sparkasse giro cards as well as in several own giro cards of credit unions, Volkbank Raiffeisenbank as well as the Volkswagen Bank in the greater Hannover, Braunschweig and Wolfsburg area. Sums of up to 20 Euro can be paid contact-free and easily with the card. Just hold the card up to the terminal and you’re finished. No inserting the card, no PIN, no signature. Girocards with girogo are based on the principle of pre-payment. That means you must charge a sum of money onto the card before you can pay with it. A maximum of 200 Euro is possible, which is then available for contact-free payments. (Source: www.girogo.de)
