Parking without a ticket in the drop off area at airports
Scheidt & Bachmann and East Midlands Airport, UK implement solution for drop off area.
At airports this is a common phenomenon: guests are driven to the airport and the driver stops at the terminal briefly. However, this "brief stop" often takes longer than originally intended. The very popular and highly frequented departure zone is often misused by short-term and "longer-term" parkers. Traffic jams and chaotic situations are virtually preprogrammed. So how can you create an individual incentive for drivers to really only stop over for a short time?
Together with Scheidt & Bachmann a simple and easy to implement solution was installed at the East Midlands Airport, UK. The drop off area was turned into a controlled parking zone which still permits short parking stops. For customers who want to stay longer, however, parking in the nearby car park is more attractive.
In order to prevent any unnecessary waiting times in front of the terminals, drivers can simply pass through without having to draw a ticket or wait for a barrier to open. Free-flow cameras record the car's license plate as it passes through without having to stop. The license plate is then stored in the parking management system. At the drop off area exit, the license plate is scanned again and the tariff is calculated. The driver can then pay the parking fee directly at the exit control device using coins or via credit card. A barrier then opens to let the car exit.
The solution is efficient, environment and service friendly at the same time as no paper tickets or ChipCoins are necessary. This means no exit control materials have to be refilled or removed. And there is considerable additional revenue for the operator due to the high frequency of cars passing through the drop off area.
Other operators are already enthusiastic about the ticketless drop off solution by Scheidt & Bachmann. It will also be installed at Leeds Bradford Airport shortly.
