Scheidt & Bachmann and APCOA: Hidden Champions at Berlin Brandenburg Airport
When Terminal 1 of Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) opens on October 31, 2020, the parking management system installed since 2012 will finally begin its operation. Eight years ago, when Scheidt & Bachmann delivered, installed, and handed over the APCOA order for a parking management system on time within three months, nobody could have guessed that the real launch would be so long in coming.
Since 2012, the facility has been fully equipped with 22 entry and 23 exit lanes and 52 automatic pay stations are ready for the payment of parking fees. Some of the parking areas have already been used by Schoenefeld Airport and the long-term parkers of the local airport authority.
For the "second launch" APCOA PARKING Deutschland GmbH has now ordered a new virtualized control level, the update of the entire project to the latest software release, and various extensions. One of the highlights among these innovations is the solution for the Kiss & Fly Area: cameras control the opening of the barriers - no need to take a paper ticket at the control device, the license plate becomes the parking ticket.
