Quercus: License Plate Reader Comes to the ALESP

The Assembleia Legislativa Do Estado de São Paulo (Legislative Assembly of São Paulo, Alesp) Is São Paolo’s State Legislative Branch.

The Assembleia Legislativa do Estado de São Paulo (Legislative Assembly of São Paulo, ALESP) is São Paolo’s state legislative branch. It is competent to propose and approve the legislation that has regulated São Paulo society since 1834. This assembly has joined the smart parking revolution, and is now using license plate recognition units in its parking facility lanes.

The ALESP has two access lanes on Srg. Mario Kozel Filho avenue and on Pedro Álvares Cabral avenue. Eight license plate recognition cameras from Quercus Technologies have been installed at these access points. License plate recognition provides the vehicles registered in the database with an automatic, touchless entrance into the parking facility.

The LPR cameras are the perfect tool for optimal access control that facilitates mobility and safety in the parking facility and access areas. ANPR technology enables operators to raise their revenue, also providing a positive, distraction-free user experience for drivers.

What do Quercus Technologies license plate recognition cameras do?

In essence, the cameras read the license plates of the vehicles attempting to enter and leaving the parking facility. License plate readers can detect illegal entry attempts and ticket swapping between owners of different vehicles. The parking management system gives users all of the information on their vehicle, enabling them to reserve parking spaces in advance and automatically access the premises.

This access automation, made possible by license plate recognition, is increasingly requested and necessary, as it prevents lines from forming at parking facility entrances and exits. Additionally, the parking facility operator can know exactly which vehicles are in each area of the parking facility, and where there are available spaces.

License plate recognition is a key part of the system in parking facilities that achieve comprehensive access control. Identifying the characters of a license plate and linking them with a given user or stay, or even a specific rate, is essential for smart parking. Automating these procedures, and depending as little as possible on human resources, makes for minimal margin of error.

How does access automation improve the user experience?

Strategic parking solutions facilitate access and traffic flow in the parking facility access lanes. Drivers using the parking facility can make on-line reservations, reserve their preferred space by simply entering their license number, and in some cases, will not have to touch any surface or device—other than their mobile phone—to park.

Today, when time is of the essence, automation and user experience have become focal points of parking systems. The purpose of smart parking is to raise customer satisfaction, among other goals, and generate repeated usage of the parking facility.

Making customers loyal with license plate recognition is simple and efficient as it enables application of marketing strategies based on usage patterns and trends through information gathered by the LPR cameras and the operator’s parking platform.
