Q-Park: Enter and Exit with License Plate Recognition at 53 P+R Locations
From now on it is possible to drive in and out at 53 P+R locations using license plate recognition. All paid P+R locations, in collaboration with Q-Park, are now equipped with a new system that makes this possible. With license plate recognition, NS wants to make parking at stations faster and easier for passengers.
"Sometimes the car is the best way to get to the station. The train then takes these travelers further to the heart of the city. A handy combination, but then it is nice if travelers can park quickly and easily. On average, 6% of passengers go to the station by car and then take the train. From research we know that the possibility of parking is very important for this group of travelers. If there were not one, a quarter of these travelers would not opt for the train." , says Nadi van der Heiden, communication manager for car parking at NS.
Easier entry and exit
The registration number of the car is scanned on arrival. After that, a passenger can park and go directly to the train. You can then pay during the exit and from the car. The license plate is scanned and the amount appears on the display. By offering an OV chip card or e-ticket, a traveler discount is automatically calculated. Payment is then made by debit card, credit card or NS-Business Card and the traveler can continue on their way. It is extra easy for P+R season ticket holders, when driving in and out, the license plate is recognized and the barriers open immediately.
NS app shows whether P+R has space
The number plate parking allows travelers to see before departure in the NS app or on ns.nl how many parking spaces are still available at 53 P+R locations at the station. Nadi van der Heiden explains: “This way travelers at home can estimate whether they can park their car.”
Door to door
The start or end of the journey is rarely the station itself. NS wants to help travelers with the easiest possible door-to-door journey and is therefore looking beyond the train. On average, about 6 percent of train passengers come to the station by car and also want to park there. Around 52,000 parking spaces are available at stations for this purpose. There are P+R locations at 265 stations where travelers can park for free. Train passengers can park cheaply at 43 stations and receive a discount with their OV chip card or e-ticket if they have made a train journey that day. The daily rate with traveler discount depends on the location, but is always a maximum of € 8 per day and in some locations even free.
