PowerGo and PLUS Commission First Ultra Fast Charger

- The Netherlands
Paul Sieljes and Thomas Bosman commission first fast charging location

PLUS customers can charge their electric vehicle (EV) quickly and easily in Klazienaveen. PLUS in Klazienaveen is the first location to have its own ultra fast charging station. Two EVs can charge simultaneously with a maximum charging speed of 320 kilowatts (kW).

Thanks to the high charging speed, the car is often fully charged as soon as shopping is finished. Customers charge with 100% solar energy.

Quick rollout

Because of the congested electricity network in the Netherlands, PowerGo installed a fast charger with an integrated battery system. The charging solution temporarily stores energy to be used for a later charging session. This relieves the electricity grid at peak moments and allows it to meet charging needs at other times.

The waiting time for connections suitable for fast chargers differs between one and a half and two years. Thanks to this smart charging solution, PowerGo was able to commission the location within just a few months. Other locations will soon follow, including PLUS in Schoonebeek.

First fast charging location of PLUS in Klazienaveen

"At PLUS we are working on making our stores and distribution centers more sustainable with the goals of energy savings, CO2 reduction and responsible use of materials. Together with PowerGo, we help our customers to reduce emissions by combining shopping and charging their car. The first fast charger is now live and Schoonebeek will soon follow. After this we want to continue expanding, and we are pleased with the interest of our location owners to realize charging infrastructure at their stores." Thomas Bosman, Process Manager Sustainable Real Estate of PLUS

User-friendly charging

Through ‘dynamic charging tariffs’, customers have access to fair and transparent charging prices based on the hourly electricity price. This also helps the electricity grid by encouraging customers to charge when more and cleaner energy is available. Charging is cheaper at those times. The PowerGo Charge app gives users access to these dynamic prices.

In addition to the most used charging and payment options, such as through an app or charge card, PowerGo also provides new payment options. PowerGo installed a payment terminal next to the charger. This allows customers to pay with a bank card, such as a debit or credit card, or with a phone or smart watch.

A customized charging solution is provided at each supermarket, with PowerGo taking care of the entire investment. PowerGo considers different factors such as customer parking behavior, space and environment. The fast chargers are designed in the recognizable branding of PLUS and equipped with touchscreen screens. Customers can easily access information about charging and payment.

“We are proud that the first location went live so quickly. It's a very good start to our partnership with PLUS. At PowerGo, customers charge with 100% renewable solar energy from solar parks of our parent company PowerField. We always look for the most efficient, sustainable and user-friendly solution. These projects are another great example of that. We look forward to rolling out this sustainable fast-charging network together with PLUS, where we put the customer first.” Paul Sieljes, Head of Operations at PowerGo.
