Portsmouth Port Recognised in Secure Car Park Awards

Designed by built by specialist car park contractor Bourne Parking and managed by Central Parking System, the L2.5 million car park has been recognised for its high standards of safety and security, including high levels of CCTV surveillance and patrols, good standards of lighting, easy vehicular and pedestrian access and clear signage. The car park was also commended for its overall design and management practices, including staff training.

Awarded by the Association of Chief Police Officers in England and Wales and the British Car Parking Association (BPA), the Secure Car Park Awards recognise car parks with the highest standards of security across the UK. Portsmouth Port’s car park received the accolade following a rigorous inspection by the BPA and Hampshire Constabulary earlier this month.

Ferry port manager Phil Gadd said: “This achievement demonstrates our commitment to the safety and security of all our passengers and their vehicles. Almost 3.5 million passengers each year make use of the Port’s connections to seven destinations in France, Spain and the Channel Islands. While many of our customers enjoy the freedom of having their own wheels, the option of travelling as a foot passenger is still popular - particularly during the spring and autumn months when people are heading off on shorter, mini breaks.

“The new car park consolidates all existing on and off site car parking at the Port, both short and long term, into one secure, easy to find location just off the motorway. It’s accessible 24 hours a day, well-lit, and incorporates the latest technology and CCTV cameras.”

The Secure Car Park Award was presented to Portsmouth Continental Ferry Port in a special ceremony.
