Portier Vision Outdoor Cameras Installed and Integrated into Portier HOST at Helsinki Airport

Helsinki Airport is the main international airport serving Helsinki, the capital of Finland, as well as its surrounding metropolitan area. Originally built for the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, the airport today provides jobs for 25,000 people and there are 1,500 companies that operate at this airport. There have been several expansions completed over the years, new terminals and buildings built, and new parking facilities established as well.

Finavia Oyj is the public limited company responsible for maintaining and developing Finland’s airport network. Finavia manages and develops 20 airports around the country, 18 of which primarily serve commercial flights and 2 of which focus solely on military and general aviation. The latest Portier parking solution products installed at Helsinki Airport are Portier Vision outdoor cameras. Vision cameras are installed on the open surface area on the top floor of the P2 parking facility. This area was previously managed by a level counting solution but as with any counting solution, space availability information had to be frequently calibrated which increased the operational workload of the parking management staff. VISION outdoor cameras don’t require any calibration and provide high accuracy availability information. This leads into better capacity utilization, higher revenues, reduced workload for the operational staff as well as better customer experience for the drivers.

The Vision high-definition cameras can capture clear images under various weather conditions, including Finland’s challenging winter months with snow, ice, and low visibility. Portier VISION outdoor cameras monitor defined areas and based on the proprietary image analysis, they detect the number of vehicles and calculate the number of free spaces. Space availability can be shown for example in the Portier parking guidance displays or used also in Portier Wayfinder web application.

Helsinki Airport has multiple different Portier technologies in their different parking facilities and all of them are connected to Portier HOST. HOST provides operators with one software managing all parking events in all areas which makes it extremely user-friendly and effective solution for the operator.
