Portier Making Driving Smart in Karlskrona

The coastal city of Karlskrona is positioned at the south east corner of Sweden with excellent connections to the other side of the Baltic Sea. Karlskrona is spread over 30 islands in the eastern part of Blekinge archipelago with approximately 67 000 inhabitants. Karlskrona is known as Sweden’s only baroque city and is host to Sweden’s only remaining naval base and the headquarters of the Swedish Coast Guard.

Karlskrona offers several parking opportunities for their driving customers in and around the city centre area. Portier parking guidance technology combined with our Swedish partner’s, Blinkfyrar AB, signs were chosen to make sure that traffic flows smoothly as drivers are guided to available parking areas directly. First guidance displays are installed along the main roads leading to Karlskrona centre and additional displays with information about space availability on each location can be found closer to each parking facility.

Parking guidance solution in Kalrskrona is a unique one. There are several private parking operators in different parking garages whereas Karlskrona municipality operates the on-street guidance solution. Portier ultrasonic parking sensors and other technology are installed in each garage provide accurate space availability information. This information is transferred via API to the municipality’s system which also obtains data from on-street parking machines via the same API interface. Karlskrona municipality’s solution thus combines information from multiple sources and then sends the data to each parking guidance display in the city’s roads.

The first phase of the Karlskrona project manages approximately 1000 parking spaces and more locations will be added to Portier HOST at a later stage. Portier HOST is flexible and easily scalable platform making it a great management tool for a small or large installation.
