Hannover Airport Switches to Digital Parking With Peter Park
Starting from April, the new system by Peter Park will be launched in the short-term parking spaces on the arrivals level. On the departure level the start of the system is planned for the summer holidays.
Hannover Airport is currently having the system by Peter Park System GmbH installed in the short-term parking spaces in front of the terminals. The arrivals level at the airport is starting with the digital parking system from April on. By the summer holidays, the parking on the departure level will also be digitized.
Many passengers and visitors have already had the chance to get familiar with the Peter Park parking system on the multi-storey car park at Hannover Central Station. The system was successfully implemented there some time ago.
Clear Advantages
For passengers and visitors, the new system is extremely convenient and customer-friendly. The main innovation: from now on, payments will no longer be made in advance, but only before leaving the car park. This means that visitors or people picking up passengers do not have to decide on a parking period when arriving at the car park. The amount to be paid is limited to the actual time spent parked.
The parking process begins and ends automatically when the vehicles enter and leave the car park which makes parking much faster and easier. Conventional tickets made out of paper or plastic become obsolete. This not only leads to cost reductions but also avoids extra waste. For the airport company, the new digital parking system brings a significant decrease in administration and maintenance costs as well as those related to the management of parking violations avoiding the need for an external company to check parking tickets.
How Does the New System Work?
When entering and leaving the terminal area, the vehicle's license plate is scanned by a camera and the parking time is automatically determined. Payment is made by entering the license plate number at one of the user-friendly pay stations. The system offers a wide range of payment options from cash to card, Apple and Google Pay (NFC) as well as online payment via app.
With the introduction of the system, the amount to be paid is limited to the actual parking time. Signs at the car park exit remind drivers not to forget to pay before leaving. Once the payment process is completed, the vehicle can leave the area seamlessly and without stopping. In case of leaving the parking area within the 10-minute free parking period, no parking fee is charged and no trip to the automatic pay station is required, which further simplifies the process. Important note for all users: only a picture of the vehicle license plate and a text file with time and date stamp are recorded to determine the parking time. There is explicitly no video recording. No public ground is recorded either. The reading of the license plate is carried out in accordance with Art 6 para. 1 lit. b and f DSGVO. If there is no parking violation and payment is made before leaving the car park, the data on entry and exit are automatically deleted.

"It is a pleasure for us to support Hannover Airport in the digitalization of its parking areas and to contribute with our system to the increase in efficiency and customer friendliness at the site through", says Maximilian Schlereth, Managing Director of Peter Park System GmbH. "Hannover Airport is creating Germany's first barrier-free, fully automated high-frequency zone on a terminal approach road." For the time being, parking in the multi-storey car parks at Hannover Airport will remain as usual.
