Students, faculty, and visitors to campus are now able to skip the trip to the parking meter with a new service that allows drivers to pay for parking directly from their mobile phone.

Cleveland State University has launched PassportParking, a mobile parking payments service, on parking spaces throughout campus. In addition to paying for parking, the new service provides drivers with reminders before their parking session expires and the ability to extend their session without having to return to the meter.

“Paying by mobile phone provides drivers with a whole new level of convenience and flexibility when it comes to paying for parking,” said Ben Rogers, Director of Parking Services for Cleveland State University. “With PassportParking, drivers no longer need to worry about how cash they have or how much time is left. Now with just a few clicks, they can pay for parking or extend their parking session from anywhere on campus.”

To utilize the new service, smart phone users must first download the PassportParking app for iOS or Android devices or register online at http://m.ppprk.com. Customers can also register by calling the local phone number listed on PassportParking signage.

Once registered, drivers have the option to pay using the PassportParking app, mobile website, or by calling the local toll free number. To pay, drivers simply enter the zone and space number listed on signage and then select how long they wish to stay. Both the mobile app and mobile website allow drivers to extend their parking session to the maximum time allowed, add or update payment card details, as well as manage notification and receipt options.

While the meter won’t show the time remaining, customers will not have to display any proof of payment as parking enforcement officers can view payments through a wireless handheld device.

The mobile pay service is offered by Charlotte, NC-based PassportParking, Inc. Passport currently operates in almost 100 municipalities, universities, and private parking operators nationwide, including Omaha, NE; Louisville, KY; and Dubuque, IA. The company also developed ParkChicago, Chicago’s mobile parking payment application.

“We are very excited to be partnering with Cleveland State on this project to make parking easier for people on campus,” said Bob Youakim, PassportParking, Inc.’s Managing Partner. “Anyone taking advantage of parking at CSU will love the simplicity of our mobile payment option and the many conveniences our technology offers. We look forward to a long relationship with the university as it continues to improve the parking experience.”
