Large Fire at Luton Airport Car Park Causes Flight Disruptions
Fire caused significant damage to the car park and forced the closure of the airport.
A major fire broke out at Luton Airport car park on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. The fire caused extensive damage to the car park and forced the closure of the airport for several hours.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Tuesday evening. The fire was brought under control after several hours, but not before it had caused significant damage to the car park and several vehicles. It’s estimated that up to 1,200 vehicles may have been in the car park at the time of the fire. The airport terminal was also damaged, but it was not as severe as the damage to the car park.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. However, it is believed to have started in one of the vehicles parked in the car park.
Firefighters and an airport staff member were taken to hospital and several flights were canceled or delayed as a result of the closure of the airport.
The airport has since reopened, but the car park remains closed. Passengers who parked their cars in the car park prior to the fire are advised to contact the airport for more information.
