Trenitalia awards ParkCloud tender for station parking
On Wednesday 26th June, Trenitalia Spa announced the results of their tender for parking services, awarding the contract to ParkCloud.
Launched in May 2013, the Trenitalia tender for station parking services took approximately 6 weeks to complete, with 2 phases, the second including only those with shortlisted proposals. The criteria for the tender was mainly focused on coverage, both in terms of stations and languages; as well as customer support and marketing capabilities.
For ParkCloud, the tender meant an opportunity to offer a new marketing channel to station parking operators already working with us; but also an incentive to further develop a rail network, and in the process add the ‘Parking at the Station’ option to several of the country specific ParkVia parking comparison websites.
Having been awarded the contract, ParkCloud will be offering parking at 49 different train stations across Europe from where Trenitalia customers can travel. Whilst this selection will be strongly focused on Italy, international locations such as Geneva, Zurich, Ljubljana, Paris and Barcelona will also be available. As with all affiliate partnerships, ParkCloud intends to expand this initial coverage over the course of the contract which is set to last up to 6 years.
The service itself will involve the creation of a dedicated Trenitalia parking website, offering pre-booking of parking at departure stations for customers travelling on FRECCIARGENTO, FRECCIAROSSA, FRECCIABIANCA, INTERCITY, and INTERCITY NOTTE trains. Along with the practicality of pre-booking and the choice of car parks, special offers and promotional prices will also be exclusively made available to customers through this channel.
With the tender having just been awarded, the launch of the Trenitalia parking services website is now set for September 2013.
Primarily, this service will be aimed at offering new benefits to Trenitalia customers, expanding the range of services already offered by the rail company. Along with the customer benefits, parking will also offer an important source of ancillary revenue for the company. Having already established a strong presence in the market for the development of ancillary airline revenue, ParkCloud hopes to bring this expertise into the rail market; and the benefits of such a project to Trenitalia.
In addition to station parking, ParkCloud covers a large number of European airports through similar partnerships with parking services for a number of international airlines.
