10 Years of Park Your Truck
How the Idea of Sharing Private Parking Spaces Became Europe‘s Largest Truck Parking Operator
2013
The Foundation and Beginnings
In August 2013, the journey of „Park Your Truck“ began under the name „UnserParkplatz GmbH“. The vision was clear: private parking spaces were to be shared to make it easier to find a parking space and reduce traffic. But after just one year, the focus was shifted - away from private car parking spaces to truck parking spaces. Why? Because this is where the greater potential lay.

The Breakthrough With Horizon
2015 became the decisive development year for Park Your Truck. With the European Union‘s Horizon 2020 funding project won, Park Your Truck realized the positive changes the reservation system for truck parking spaces could bring. In a field of 8,400 participants, the company was one of only two German companies to receive funding from the EU Commission. Even at this early stage, it was clear how much CO2 could be saved if parking search traffic was reduced - 16 kg per night per truck. A significant achievement, especially given that no comprehensive climate agreement existed at the time. The Park Your Truck success story is a prime example of how innovative ideas, combined with a clear vision and a strong focus on sustainability, can lead to a thriving business. The story shows that sharing resources not only makes economic sense, but can also make a significant contribution to environmental protection.
The Development of the Reservation System
Strengthened by the funding, „Park Your Truck“ took a step back to implement the largest primary research on truck parking. In collaboration with the Steinbeis Institute, 120 trucking companies, 400 drivers and 60 truck stops were surveyed to gain a thorough understanding of parking issues. These valuable findings formed the basis for the development of today‘s reservation system.
2021
Expansion and Internationalization
The renaming to „Park Your Truck GmbH“ laid the foundation for internationalization. Awarded in 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2021, the company proved that it didn‘t just have an idea, but a working business model. The focus was on finding areas that were already sealed and available as storage areas. Park Your Truck turned these areas into truck parking spaces with a unique and pragmatic approach.
Responsibility for the Environment
Recognizing that sharing resources can make a huge contribution to sustainability, Park Your Truck has established itself as a pioneer of carbon-neutral parking. Investing in charging points for e-trucks, making land available for setting up bio-LNG, H2 and e-fuel stations are part of the strategy to have the infrastructure ready for the coming energy transition while enabling drivers to use these resources efficiently.

Growth and Future
In recent years, „Park Your Truck“ has experienced remarkable expansion. The headquarters in Dessau-Roßlau serves as the center for the operational business. In addition, subsidiaries have been established in the UK, Spain, Italy, and France. The expansion continues in 2023, with the first space in Venlo. With currently 14 employees, including two in the UK, and a team of experienced professionals, „Park Your Truck“ has more than doubled its turnover to 13 million euros in the last two years. The success story of „Park Your Truck“ is a prime example of how innovative ideas, combined with a clear vision and a strong focus on sustainability, can lead to a thriving business. The story shows that sharing resources not only makes economic sense but can also make a significant contribution to environmental protection.
About Park Your Truck
Park Your Truck GmbH (formerly known as UnserParkplatz GmbH) was founded in August 2013. Initially, it started as an online platform for sharing car parking spaces. After one year, they left this market and turned their attention to solving the truck parking problem.
Initially, they pragmatically acquired 1,000 truck parking spaces at gas stations and rest areas for reservation through our portal and simply tried to offer them to truck drivers. In 2015, with the technical implementation of the platform, they won Phase 1 of the Horizon 2020 EU competition, which had 8,400 participants from all over Europe. They utilized the EU-funded feasibility study as the largest primary market research in the field of truck parking, and the insights from it laid the foundation for their current new reservation platform, www.park-your-truck.com.
