MSR-Traffic: Parking Space Management at Frankfurt Airport - Efficient and Dynamic

Fraport AG once again relies on intelligent control systems from MSR-Traffic, Lower Bavaria, for sustainable parking space management.

Fraport AG is one of the leading international companies in the airport business and is based at almost 30 airports on four continents.

The LED-MATRIX displays and the new ParkGard®Control Center from MSR-Traffic GmbH guarantee dynamic parking space management in the entrance area of the parking garages in Terminal 1.

Parking guidance systems are of central importance for sustainable and climate-neutral mobility. They inform car drivers in real-time about free parking space capacities and navigate to the next free parking space as quickly as possible. This not only avoids unnecessary trips but also reduces harmful emissions.

Fraport AG is one of the leading international companies in the airport business and is based at almost 30 airports on four continents. Fraport provides all operational and administrative services for airport and terminal operations, such as flight and terminal operations, airport deliveries, VIP services, IT services, energy management, airport expansion, corporate security, and ground services.

Efficient Parking Space Management and Climate Neutrality

Fraport AG is also responsible for parking space management and mobility. As part of modern mobility management, for example, it creates the infrastructural prerequisites for the desired climate neutrality at Frankfurt Airport. This includes, among other things, minimizing traffic looking for a parking space and promoting efficient parking space management through intelligent control systems and the use of LED technology.

The latest project – the installation of LED matrix displays at Frankfurt Airport in the entrance area to the parking garages in Terminal 1.

Since the traffic and parking situations in the access area of the terminal can change at any time, Fraport now has the option of using the LED matrix displays and the new ParkGard®Control Center (PGCC) to adapt the displays to traffic needs in real time using control software. This promotes dynamic traffic management.

LED-Matrix Displays

The dynamic LED matrix displays have a flat and modern design, and numbers, arrows, and symbols can also be configured individually. All displays can be combined with conventional traffic signs and optionally equipped with wireless communication technology from MSR-Traffic.

Various possible uses make the LED-Matrix System very diverse...

  • Display of the occupancy status at the entrance and for each lane
  • Display of event-based information, e.g. charging stations for electric cars, disabled parking spaces
  • Alternating display of the number of parking spaces
  • Display of special events, e.g. mother-child parking spaces, women's parking spaces, weather display

Advantages for Parking Space Management

  • Individual configuration of numbers, arrows, and symbols
  • Flat and modern design, individual modular design
  • Good visibility with non-reflecting displays
  • Dynamic parking space search, real-time data transmission
