The Shetlands stay METRIC

Lerwick Port Authority have ordered new METRIC Elite LS parking terminals to replace their existing Accent machines, which were installed almost a decade ago, at Victoria Pier Car Park.

Lerwick is the main port for the Shetland Islands welcoming 30,000 passengers from cruise ships each year, as well as ferries, cargo, fishing, and sailing yachts.

Despite being so far north, the Shetlands do not experience extremes in temperature yet rarely get above 15 °C even in summer. However, gales are quite common and wind speeds can reach hurricane force 12. During the winter, the Shetlands receive less than six hours of daylight so the new parking terminals will be mains powered.

The new terminals have twin printers for double the ticket capacity – up to 8,000 tickets – a feature that is unique to METRIC’s Elite LS.
