IP Parking: IP Charging - Charging Solution for the Municipality of Assen

IP Charging Provides the Municipality of Assen with a Future-Proof Charging Solution

IP Charging Municipality

The Municipality of Assen has taken an important step towards making its mobility infrastructure more sustainable by installing 75 OSTRA charging stations for electric vehicles in seven municipal parking garages. This project marks a significant milestone in the municipal charging vision and addresses the growing demand for charging points for electric vehicles.

With a parking capacity of approximately 2,600 spaces across seven parking garages, IP Charging has now installed reliable and future-proof charging solutions at each location.

The Challenge

For the Municipality, it is essential that the growing number of electric vehicles can be charged safely and efficiently to enhance the convenience for residents and visitors. The reliability of the charging stations was a crucial requirement, and the charging points need to integrate seamlessly with the existing Parking Management System (PMS) of IP Parking. Additionally, it must be a future-proof solution, allowing the municipality to scale capacity as the demand for charging points increases.

The Result

The Municipality of Assen now has a fully integrated, reliable, and scalable solution that meets the growth of electric traffic. The PMS of IP Parking is linked to the Charge Point ManagementEV charging space in a parkinggarage System (CPMS) of BlueMarble. This integration allows the Municipality of Assen to soon manage charging and parking services through a single user-friendly platform, enabling parking and charging to be processed in one transaction via Direct Payment.

A significant advantage of our charging solution is Dynamic Load Balancing. This feature efficiently distributes the available charging capacity across the charging stations per parking garage without overloading the network. The project not only contributes positively to the sustainability of the city but also improves parking options for both residents and visitors.

Eelco de Groot from the Municipality of Assen comments: "With the 75 charging units that IP Charging has installed for us, we are removing barriers that people may face in driving electric vehicles. Sustainable transportation is one of the ways we are getting closer to our climate ambitions. Emission-free by 2050."

Why IP Charging

The choice for IP Charging was driven not only by the long-standing collaboration between IP Parking and the Municipality of Assen in parking management but also by the unique advantages our charging solution offers.

Key Benefits:

  • Reliability: The charging points are reliable, one of the municipality's main requirements. Additionally, operators can swap out the smart core themselves, minimizing downtime.
  • Seamless Integration: Thanks to the smart connection between PMS and CPMS, parking and charging are integrated into one system, simplifying management.
  • Scalability: The system is future-proof and can grow with the increasing demand for electric charging. Dynamic Load Balancing ensures efficient distribution of the available capacity, allowing the number of charging points to increase with the growing demand for electric charging over time.
  • Full Control: Parking operators retain complete control over the charging infrastructure and can flexibly adjust rates based on demand, parking behavior, or requested charging services without relying on external eMobility Service Providers (eMSPs).
