Genetec Curb Sense Introduces a New Way to Enforce Parking Sensors in Belgium
Several smart cities in Belgium are the first to deploy the new Genetec integration with parking sensor technology, to optimize vehicle rotation in shopping zones.
Genetec Inc. (“Genetec”), a leading technology provider of unified security, public safety operations, and business intelligence solutions today announced the launch of a parking spot sensor integration of Genetec Patroller™, the in-vehicle automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) software solution, with Curb Sense™, a cloud-based parking management platform.
The integration facilitates more efficient enforcement of parking violations by connecting data from parking sensors, which detect overstays, to the license plate data from enforcement vehicles. This enables infractions to be processed on handheld devices, reviewed centrally, and notices to be sent by mail, streamlining the entire enforcement process.
In bustling shop-and-go zones, where retailers rely on a high rotation of vehicles for increased customer foot traffic, manual parking enforcement methods fall short. The constant need for on-street surveillance to deter overstaying is difficult and labor intensive, resulting in reduced rotation. These challenges highlight the inefficiency of conventional enforcement methods in dynamic environments.
The new solution consists of automated sensors installed in selected parking spots, aimed at maintaining high rotation in shopping areas. When parking time limits are exceeded, the system automatically generates an event in Enforcement Center. Patrollers send the ALPR data to Enforcement Center based on the location of the overstay. Upon reviewing the evidence, officers confirm the issuance of a citation, which is then mailed to the registered vehicle owner's address.
This new solution not only streamlines enforcement by reducing manual effort and paperwork but also ensures a more consistent and effective management of parking in high-demand zones.
“The evolution of curb management and the shift to centralize enforcement with the integration of new technologies like parking spot sensors help drive efficiency and automation,” said Steve Kellner, Curb Sense Delivery Manager, Genetec Inc. “These types of integrations have a major impact on vehicle rotation, resulting in a better parking experience for shoppers and more foot traffic for retailers.”
“The parking spot sensor feature not only reduces the time individual enforcement officers need to spend on checking each vehicle. This new solution offers us more efficiency in the enforcement of shop & go spots,” said Philippe Maquestiaux, Commercial Director of Optimal Parking Control. “It has been launched for a couple of months now, in multiple cities in Belgium, and it is great to see this new solution is helping the cities to achieve their goals in creating rotation on parking spots in front of the shop owner.”
