Wightlink Prepares for the Summer Season with Flowbird
Ferry operator Wightlink has installed new parking technology at four passenger terminals in readiness for the start of the busy holiday season on the Isle of Wight.
The company, which operates crossings to Yarmouth, Fishbourne and Ryde on the island from Portsmouth and Lymington, has installed Flowbird Strada Rapide units to improve reliability for the hundreds of thousands of visitors using the services over the summer, and for regular commuters to and from the mainland.
Multiple Flowbird terminals have been installed at Lymington Pier, Gunwharf Road (Portsmouth), Fishbourne and Ryde Pier, and will offer users coin, bank card and contactless payment options. They are connected to Smartfolio, Flowbird’s central management system, enabling Wightlink to monitor system performance remotely and access detailed parking and payment transaction data.
Given the exposed position of the terminals, the technology is also purpose-designed to withstand harsh weather conditions.
Some of the new terminals are located on Ryde Pier, the second longest pier in the UK stretching half a mile into the sea – a destination that attracts many thousands of the 4.5 million passengers carried by Wightlink each year.
