Lyon Chooses Flowbird to Implement Its New Progressive Parking Pricing

- Lyon, France
Lyon

The city of Lyon is once again positioning itself at the forefront of innovation in urban mobility with the launch of a progressive parking pricing project. The city has chosen to entrust Flowbird with the deployment of this innovative and unique project in France. This initiative marks a new era in the management of on-street parking and illustrates Lyon's commitment to the mobility transition.

What does progressive parking pricing mean?

Progressive parking pricing is an innovative approach that aims to align parking rates with the overall impact of vehicles on the environment and the occupation of the public domain. Unlike traditional pricing systems, which apply uniform rates to all vehicles, this innovative project takes into account criteria such as the engine and weight of the vehicle to determine parking rates. Solidarity pricing is also implemented by taking into account the financial and family situation of residents of the city of Lyon for greater social justice.

Thanks to Flowbird Hub, Lyon is lifting the limits on parking pricing

Flowbird provides innovative solutions to implement parking policies that meet the environmental and social values defended by the territories. It is natural that Flowbird has established itself as the ideal partner for the development of the project led by the city of Lyon.

Thanks to the centralized management platform Flowbird Hub, it is possible to automatically take into account, for each purchase of a parking ticket, the technical characteristics of vehicles in the calculation of their rate via a connection to the Vehicle Registration System (SIV) of the French Ministry of the Interior. This connection allows the city to define a pricing policy, applicable to vehicles parked on its territory, by taking into account certain technical characteristics of vehicles such as its vehicle category, its type of engine (electric, hybrid or thermal), or its unladen weight. The city can thus promote the use of electric vehicles, vehicles with a reasonable unladen weight, etc. on its roads.

On April 8, Flowbird took the first step in setting up this innovative project by offering a rate simulator available online on the website of the city of Lyon. This innovative tool allows users to calculate the price of parking based on their type of vehicle and, for residents, certain social criteria. By entering their license plate, visiting motorists have the price of their parking. Similarly, residents, by entering the social criteria defined by the City of Lyon, as well as their license plate, have a personalized estimate of the future price of their subscription.

This new pricing, both ecological and supportive, was deployed on June 11, 2024 in the city of Lyon and will improve the sharing of public space, be part of the overall health policy and respond to the climate emergency.

The Flowbird teams are proud to contribute to a decarbonized future in the city of Lyon and to make mobility more sustainable and more accessible.

"The request issued by the City of Lyon convinced us that our communities need to go further in integrating their parking policy by combining an effective ecological and societal approach. The project that we have built hand in hand with the city of Lyon is one of those that, extended to the country, can have an impact and breathe new life into our Cities." Jean-François ESNAULT, Smart City Director Flowbird France
