Flowbird Extends Ticketless Parking Across Transperth SmartRider Network

Pay-by-plate Technology Enhances Park + Ride

The Flowbird pay-by-plate and SmartParker terminals at Transperth stations have a bespoke pay-by-plate keyboard

New pay-by-plate technology has been developed by Flowbird to make parking as convenient as possible for users of the Transperth SmartRider multimodal transport network in Western Australia.

Flowbird is replacing the old pay and display machines with pay-by-plate technology to augment the existing network of SmartParker terminals that integrate with Transperth’s SmartRider ticketing system.

Under the existing SmartParker scheme, SmartRider account holders can register vehicles and pay for parking by tapping their card at a designated car park terminal.

The new pay-by-plate system enables customers to pay for parking by coin - or with a SmartRider card for non-registered cars - by entering number plate details at the new terminals. This information is then matched to payment records to ensure compliance – and there is no need to display a ticket on the dashboard. The new terminals also include an option for SmartParker payments.

With the pay-by-plate system SmartRider cards and coins can be usedThis new system makes parking more convenient for all car drivers using the Transperth network,” said David Thompson, General Manager, Australia for Flowbird Transport Intelligence.

“Casual users - and those SmartRider customers who have not registered a vehicle on their account – will benefit from a ticketless parking system that enables them to ‘pay and go’ without displaying a ticket. At the same time, SmartParker users will also be able to use the new machines should queues form at the dedicated terminals.”

The pay-by-plate terminals are currently being installed across the Transperth network.

Flowbird has been a transport technology partner with Perth since the 1980s. The company created the Tag On, Tag Off ticketing system for the Transperth multimodal network, developed the SmartParker scheme and was instrumental in rolling out the world-class bus stand management and passenger information system at the city’s Busport.

Last year, the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia appointed Flowbird as prime contractor for the SmartRider network.
