EFAFLEX Underground Car Park Doors for Safety and Security

The Dutch municipality of Nijmegen is minimising the risk of accidents, and improving user security by installing parking system doors from EFAFLEX

Access and exit shutters for underground car parks need to be particularly safe, with guarantees that no one is harmed during their use. To ensure the safety of both people and vehicles at the Keizer Karel Plein car park, the Dutch municipality of Nijmegen has changed their old style roller shutters for two bespoke parking system doors from global market leaders, EFAFLEX.

The operator helps to explain why the municipality opted for parking system doors from EFAFLEX: “Fundamentally the decision was one of safety! High-speed doors can be very dangerous for children. Our older roller shutter systems did not include safety features such as light barriers or other methods of self-monitoring. They could quickly become traps for playing children.”

Since being installed, the two new EFAFLEX parking system doors have guaranteed the highest levels of safety. The TÜV-certified infrared light grid (EFA-TLG®), which is fitted as standard, is completely self-monitoring. It is installed directly into the side of the door track in order to keep it well protected. The light grid monitors the door closing level up to a height of 2.5 metres and can detect even the smallest obstacles, such as a trailer. If such an obstacle were to be in the way, the closing movement would be immediately stopped or not initiated in the first place. This unique technology helps to protect people, the door, and vehicles.

User security is the second reason that the client chose EFAFLEX car parking systems. The car park offers space for around 700 vehicles and motorcycles. “The fast opening and closing of the high-speed doors provides a much greater sense of security compared to a simple roller shutter,” confirms Roy Lodewijk, specialist for parking system doors at EFAFLEX van der Tol en Keijzer BV in the Netherlands: “Women in particular are appreciative of the security element which the EFAFLEX doors offer.” EFAFLEX systems secure the external building, by opening in seconds and closing automatically immediately after the vehicle has passed through. The EFA-SST® thus prevents unauthorised access of unwanted cars or people to the building, protecting the entrance and exit areas of underground car parks; this is a particular feature which is beneficial for car parks to hotels, banks, residential buildings and other public institutions.
