Winds of change on the Danube: Roman Fahringer is new MD of DESIGNA in Vienna and Budapest
Austria is one of the most hotly contested markets for parking management. Roman Fahringer, who was recently appointed Managing Director of DESIGNA's subsidiaries in Vienna and Budapest, is well aware of this – and views it as an incentive and great challenge: "Together with my team, my task is to wrest market share from our strong competitors," and he adds: "We will only achieve this by fighting hard for every single project and every single customer."
This is a task for which the Lower Austria-born Fahringer, now resident in Vienna, is ideally equipped thanks to 15 years of sales and management experience in the mobile communications industry. On 1 May he succeeded Werner Gamon, who commenced his well-deserved retirement after 4 years in the role. As he collected his daughter from Vienna Airport one day, Roman Fahringer was struck by the notion that a managing position with the leading parking management technology company might be the next logical step in his career: "As I paid for the ticket at the automatic pay station, it was clear to me that this industry has a future."
He takes his inspiration for his day to day challenges from his family – and from nature. He finds inner peace and recharges his batteries on long hikes, climbing in the Alps or running and cycling. "Experiencing nature at close quarters is the ideal way of seeing everyday life from a new perspective in today's virtualised environment."
And new perspectives are of critical importance in today's professional environment. "The extraordinary competitive pressure requires constant evolution of one's thought processes and ways of working," says Fahringer. "Cost-efficient business models, a very high level of service quality and direct, personal customer support may not guarantee success – but alongside an excellent product they are certainly the most important building blocks."
If you add a strong team to all this – such as the two experienced line-ups in Vienna and Budapest – everything points to a more than positive future.
