DESIGNA moving forwards: Stefan Ille joins the management board

Technological innovation and service have always played a leading role at DESIGNA, and more than ever since the launch of PM ABACUS. That the mastermind behind DESIGNA's product development will henceforth be taking an active part in determining the company's future seems only logical. Since 1 October, Stefan Ille has held the position of Managing Director alongside Dr. Thomas Waibel, who in future will be focusing more closely on the newly-established DESIGNA-AXESS Holding.

Stefan Ille has played a key part in shaping DESIGNA and the DESIGNA product range for many years. When the native Swabian joined the company in 1991, the merger with VDO Verkehrsleittechnik was already in full swing. He rebuilt the development team from the ground up and laid the crucial foundations for what was then the state-of-the-art PM 100 system, which is still serving reliably in many parking garages around the world today. Later he was the driving force behind the development of today's technological standard, PM ABACUS, with its almost unlimited networking possibilities.

As a passionate sailor, it was obvious to Stefan Ille that moving north was the ideal opportunity for him to make more room for his hobby. But it turned out somewhat differently: "To the present day, I have never again sailed a boat myself," he says with a wry smile. "But I have stuck with cycling – for me it's the best compensation." His enthusiasm for the sport has become so great that not only does he cycle the 20 km from home to the company's Kiel headquarters almost every day, but he also successfully takes part in famous cycle races such as the Cyclassics.

That same passion and single-mindedness will now – more than ever – be put to good use for the company. Whilst Dr. Thomas Waibel will concentrate entirely on sales and marketing and commercial matters, the areas of development, production and service will in future be taken care of by Stefan Ille. "I am very much looking forward to continuing to develop cutting-edge products that are always a step ahead of the market with my great team," says the new Managing Director.
