DESIGNA's 65th birthday – From Kiel to the world

Reliable, innovative, and with considerable know-how: that is the recipe for success with which DESIGNA Verkehrsleittechnik has established itself as a technological leader in the parking management industry. The internationally operating company is now celebrating its 65th birthday.

From Germany to Australia, from France to Italy and England, and also to the USA, DESIGNA parking systems control car parks on all five continents. More than 15,000 systems have already been successfully installed – and two more are being installed every day. Our customers include airports, shopping malls and also hotels, hospitals and local authorities.

It all started on a small scale: With just three employees, Heinz Bula and Gerhard Vogel founded "DESIGNA-Deutsche Signal- und Werbemittelgesellschaft mbH" in Kiel on 11th January 1951. Originally, the company manufactured traffic signs and advertising signs until the first fully automated parking system was presented about 40 years ago.

And today? Due to the ever-increasing speed of advancements, DESIGNA has been able to bring solutions with increasing complexity and intelligence onto the market. Current example: the Cloud service and beacon-based parking app "qinkk". The number of DESIGNA employees has now also increased to about 350 in more than 60 countries. Some of them have been with the company for over 40 years, and many have remained loyal to the company for more than 20 years.

It remains to be asked "what next"? DESIGNA intends to continue growing for decades to come. The parking business is changing, and new opportunities are emerging. As a trendsetter for new products and services, the company puts its customers in a position to exploit new business areas and valuable marketing benefits.

In 1951 DESIGNA became Germany's first producer and supplier of parking meters. DESIGNA's history of innovation continued. At the end of the seventies, the Kiel-based enterprise was able to to introduce its first fully automatic parking system. The company's programme has now been further developed to encompass fully comprehensive solutions, from the design and planning phase right through to the installation and service of fully automatic parking systems. The experience DESIGNA has acquired over the last 50 years continues to benefit customers at every stage of the project.
