Experts from 33 countries met in Circontrol’s Headquarters to talk about the future of efficient parking

Efficient mobility is one of the most important challenges of the XXI century. Nowadays there are about 1,2 billion cars circulating  and in year 2035 this figure could reach 2 billion. Besides, these cars will be geographically concentrated in big cities, where the biggest population growth is expected. That’s why pollution and traffic management are key areas and parking has a very important role on these issues.

Parking can no longer be just a dark and hostile space where you leave your car. A good design, the use of new technologies seeking energy efficiency and a better user experience are more important every day and these are objectives that Circontrol seeks in its Efficient Parking concept. Moreover, new kinds of vehicle are here to stay. Electric Vehicle is now a reality and in some countries such as Norway the number of EVs sold is higher than the oil vehicles. But also autonomous vehicle is in every car manufacturer plan, and connected vehicle, that nowadays has the capacity of 30 computers and will optimize the maintenance offering a more comfortable experience.

Efficient Parking

First day of the meeting was dedicated to Efficient Parking concept, Circontrol’s solution to meet the challenge of the parking sector in these new times. It consists on a global platform, CirPark Platform, that manages guidance and illumination systems, and EV charging solutions integrating all these solutions offered by Circontrol.

Thus, CirPark Platform includes three family products: iPark,LEDPArk and EVPark. First of all, iPark includes indoor and outdoor parking guidance system, counting and Find Your Car solutions, all this integrated in global management platform. With this system the operator gets a traffic management and occupation optimization and a reduction of operational and maintenance costs. This, in addition, offers a better user experience reducing the stress and the time spent on locating free spaces increasing customer’s loyalty.

LEDPark is the set of solutions for the lighting of the car park. It’s a regulated LED lighting system with LED technology, integrated with parking guidance and managed accordingly with real-time occupancy and pedestrian movements. With this system the operator can reduce its cost by 85% due to its energy efficiency and low maintenance costs.

And finally, EVPark, a set of solutions for EV charging that offers a wide range of solutions adapted to indoor and outdoor parking facilities. Offer this solution to customers in a world where electric vehicle will have a very important presence will be really important to increase customer loyalty, reputation and could become a new source of income.

Looking at the sector

On this Expert Meeting, Circontrol has also opened its eyes to what the sector is doing and that’s why they invited representatives of leading companies. Max Kordylas, CEO at Yellow&Co, mobility, parking and wayfinding consultancy was one of the key speakers. Max Kordylas is aware of the importance of parking for a business, in fact, its slogan is no parking, no business; bad parking, bad business; good parking, good business. On his presentation he focused on parking management for shopping centres and big events where mobility strategic design and traffic management is very important to increase business profitability. Using some examples Max Kordylas explained how an intelligent parking can take 20% more traffic saving time and increasing rotation.

Albert Sant, head of parking unit in B:SM, responsible of public car parks in Barcelona, explained what do they expect for the future of city’s car parks. B:SM is now working in the adaptation to new technologies and new vehicles with: more parking spaces for electric vehicles, the use of new technologies in the access and payment using the potential of the connected car and the possibility of turning the car park into a service centre for the vehicle and the driver. Sylvia Rausch, marketing director in SABA, leading company in sustainable mobility focused on parking with 370 car parks in 5 countries, also talked about the importance of new kind of vehicles. His presentation, however, focused on the importance of targeting the final consumer and marketing’s key role on this introducing initiatives such as his new website. 

Finally Anis Samdaie, Project Manager in Traffic Tech, explained his project M’Sheireb Downtown, a renovation of the old commercial heart of Doha that consists in more than 100 buildings that combine commercial, residential and leisure areas. With 10.700 parking spaces is the largest underground parking of the world. This car park uses Circontrol’s Efficient Parking system.
