Wandsworth Expands Cashless Parking Across Borough

Wandsworth Council is continuing the roll-out of its cashless and contactless strategy for parking terminals across the borough in response to growing demand for payment convenience among local residents and visitors.

From August onwards, 591 new Flowbird StradaPAL cashless terminals and 199 StradaPAL coin and card terminals will be installed in line with the council’s terminal estate renewal and refresh programme, which started in 2014. The initiative includes the replacement of a number of older machines that are now at the end of their useful working lives.

The new solar-powered terminals are being installed in a variety of locations across the borough, including in Wandsworth, Clapham, Putney, Tooting, and Battersea, with the cashless terminals enabled for Chip and PIN and contactless payments. All are linked to Flowbird’s Smartfolio central management system, enabling the council to remotely monitor the entire terminal estate and access detailed parking and payment transactional data.

In addition to the new installations, Flowbird will also be upgrading 142 existing terminals with the latest card reader modules, enhancing the payment options open to users.

A spokesperson for Wandsworth Council said: “This is a significant investment by the council in new, up-to-date parking technology which will enhance customer convenience while, at the same time, improving operational security.

“Residents and visitors are increasingly comfortable with cashless payment options – including contactless - and now expect this method of payment to be available for parking. The Smartfolio central management will also provide the council with the data it needs to monitor terminal performance and track usage in line with its parking strategy.”
