Bluetop Solar Parking Supplies The Solar Canopies For UK's Largest Solar Carport Project
Lakeside North Harbour: Pioneering Sustainable Energy
Bluetop Solar Parking is proud to contribute to the creation of sustainable energy solutions for Lakeside North Harbour in Portsmouth UK, by supplying the solar canopy systems for what is set to be the largest solar carport project in the UK to date.
With a capacity of 3.5MW, Bluetop’s innovative solar canopies, which will cover 1,200 existing car parking spaces, are on track to reduce carbon emissions by over 680 tons annually and generate enough energy to power over 1,000 homes or businesses each year. Moreover, the project will integrate a 2MW battery storage system, ensuring electricity is efficiently utilized based on demand. The supply is carried out for and in partnership with the turnkey supplier, Custom Solar – a Mitie company.
Harnessing the latest innovations in Solar Carport Technologies
The Bluetop engineering team deployed their latest developed structure system, Bluetop BION, which combines efficiency with innovative design features. This system offers distinct advantages when steel foundations are being used, as is the case for the Lakeside project.
Bluetop is also providing an integrated canopy lighting system which optimizes power consumption through sensor-based control thus ensuring efficient energy utilization.
Furthermore, the solar canopy structures will incorporate Bluetop’s proprietary roofing system, BlueRoof, which offers a water-resistant solution featuring visible PV modules, thus providing a premium semi-transparent and aesthetic appearance. The BlueRoof concept also boasts a swift and seamless setup with modules effortlessly sliding into place thus negating the need for personnel on the roof and ensuring a secure installation process.
The 7,105 solar modules which will cover the 1,200 existing parking spaces, are sourced by Custom Solar from LONGi.
Portsmouth City Council's path to Net Zero
The first phase of the project has been installed and the entire project is set to be completed by autumn 2024. It significantly advances Portsmouth’s progress towards achieving its Net Zero by 2030 objective, establishing a robust and sustainable energy ecosystem. Through strategic investments in solar canopies, rooftop solar, battery storage, and electric vehicle infrastructure, Portsmouth City Council guarantees a greener future for residents and businesses alike and Bluetop Solar Parking is proud to be a part of this ambitious project.
